We would like to say a HUGE thank you to our community, who sent in so many warm messages (which became a 20 page booklet) and contributed to a wonderful going away gift. Our Mr. Cosmas will be missed for a long time.
There were so many requests to publish Mr. Cosmas’ speech, please find below…
“Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, boys and girls, dear friends and parents,
Today, as I stand before you, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions — gratitude, recollection, and a touch of sadness. After 17 incredible years at this amazing school, it is time for me to bid farewell and embrace a new chapter in my life.
When I first joined this remarkable community, I was uncertain about what the future held for me. Little did I know that I was stepping into a family — a family that would inspire me, challenge me, and support me in ways I could have never imagined. Over these years, I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated, passionate, and talented students and colleagues I have ever met. You’ve all enriched my life in so many wonderful ways.
To the students and staff, thank you for your unwavering support and compassion. I have witnessed countless days and late nights of lesson preparations, collaborated on projects that sparked your creativity, and celebrated the successes of students as if they were my own children. Your commitment to nurturing and guiding these students is nothing short of inspiring.
To my wonderful students, past and present, you have been the heart of my experience here. Watching you grow, learn, and explore the world has been a privilege. Your curiosity and enthusiasm for learning filled each day with joy and amazement.
To the parents and the broader Waldorf School community, your trust and partnership has been invaluable. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives and for allowing me to be a part of your children’s educational journey. The close-knit environment we’ve created together is what sets Waldorf apart, and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
As I reflect on my years here, I am overwhelmed by the beautiful memories we’ve created. From the vibrant festivals that lit up our school, to the challenges we faced together and overcame, to the quiet moments of discovery and joy in the classroom — these experiences will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I will miss the laughter in the hallways, the spirited discussions in faculty meetings, and the simple joy of watching our students thrive. Though I’m excited about what lies ahead, I know that leaving this community will be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
As I step into this new phase of life, I take with me not only the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired but also the love and warmth that this community has provided. While I may be retiring from my role at the Waldorf School, the spirit of this place will always remain with me.
Thank you for your friendship, your support, and the countless memories we’ve shared. I am profoundly grateful to have been a part of this special community, and while I may be saying goodbye, I will carry each of you in my heart wherever I go.
So, this is not really a farewell. It’s a heartfelt thank you and a promise that the bonds we’ve formed will endure. I wish each of you continued success and happiness in the years to come.
Thank you/Enkosi Kakhulu/Baie Dankie/Maita Basa, Mr Cosmas.”
