Football

On Friday 6th September our U13 girls participated in The Grove Primary School’s fundraiser for the Red Cross Memorial Children’s Hospital. This year the funds raised will go to the building of the new Orthopeadic Unit at the hospital. The six schools who participated were aiming to outdo the schools from the previous year which raised R11 000. Although the aim of the day was to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital, there were children who had a date with some football!

Our girls played against Sun Valley Primary School, American International School of Cape Town, The Grove Primary, and Cedar House.  We won two games, drew one and lost one. A big thank you to the parents who were at the Red Cross supporting their daughters and donating towards the fundraiser. It was a wonderful way to end the football season.

On Saturday, our Class 4 and 5 girls who make up the U11 Girls football team got their first taste of a football tournament, as they participated at the Wynberg Girls Junior School’s U11 Girls Football Tournament. Our girls were slow out of the blocks but made up for their slow and tough start to the tournament, by winning their quarter-final match to make the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they lost by just one goal and needed to fight for the third-place match, which they won, and returned home with a Bronze Medal in their first competitive tournament. Well done to the girls and what a way to end the football season.

U13 Boys Football Challenge

Saturday the 7th of September proved to be a day of many firsts. Our school hosted its first-ever inter-school football tournament in the U13 Boys Football Challenge, where eight schools dawned on our wonderful campus for some entertaining football matches. Eight teams including, The Grove Primary School, Ukhanyo Primary School, Cedar House, Constantia Public Primary School, Stellenbosch Waldorf School, Zenzeleni Waldorf School, and our U13 Boys Football team, would fight for the Inaugural Shield. After seven hours of entertaining football, The Grove Primary School and Ukhanyo Primary School contested the final fixture where UKhanyo Primary School won 2 – 0 and walked away with the Challenge Cup. Well done UKhanyo Primary School!

A big thank you to everyone who was involved with the tournament and we look forward to another exciting football season next year.

Herschel U14 Girls Basketball Pink Fest

Good Luck to our U13 Girls Basketball team who will be hoping to come back with the Herschel Girls School’s U14 Girls Basketball Pink Fest Cup later today.
