During the course of this term, members of our community gathered once more to guide the young people of Class 10 through two parallel adventures (I was one of the guides for the camp for the young men of the class).

Big thanks to the following facilitators and support staff who volunteered time and energy for the process, drawn primarily from our parent bodies, alongside staff members and experienced facilitators from the wider Waldorf community:
Adrian Daniels, Amélie Lorenzen, Andreas Schaal, Cayley Conway, Chris Berens, Demian Hauptle, Dawid Wapenaar, Hilaire Akollo, Khin Ohn, Lauren Medcalf, Layo Seriki, Lee Rael, Liesl Rohland, Lucy Olden, Mary Aucamp, Michael Kornmuller, Peter Van Der Post, Rebecca Johns, Tiemke Rijpstra and Yusuf Lawrence!

Here are some reflections from the parents of the class:
“Thank you for a truly enriching camp experience for our girls, they are very lucky to have had this opportunity. When I arrived on the Saturday to fetch Maya, she was glowing! We really are so grateful for the Moms who took the time out of their families lives to offer themselves for this. Keep doing it!”

“Thank you so much for organising this very special ceremony and getaway, the thought put it into it all, the planning and love blows my mind. I’m really super impressed by how it unfolded and what you had planned for them. Alex absolutely loved every second. I did see huge changes in Alex on his return, he felt like a different man-child :)”

“I write this letter as father of two Grade 10 learners to express both my thanks, and that of many other parents I’ve spoken with , to the school , facilitators and support staff for the hosting of the Grade 10 Roots, Hearts and Wings Camp. The best evaluators of the process are the young adults themselves , and this camp has been profound for our two young adults. They have both grown in confidence and clarity. The relationships in the class, with their peers has improved and we have heard only positive feedback about how the camps were held by the facilitators and support staff. It is not an easy task to find the balance between expanding our young adult’s limits and it still feeling safe and held, and from everything that we have heard, this was the case. The personable and frank way that the facilitators interacted was noted, and there was an appreciation in interacting with and having conversations and processes with “real moms and dads” . The process of entering young adulthood through ritual is so important for young people , and I and my family are immensely grateful to the time, effort and resources that the school and the volunteers have put into making this the success that it is.”
